“The Conferences” embraces the primary writings of one of the most celebrated Christian monks in the Eastern and Western church, John Cassian. It includes a series of twenty four dialogues between the author (as well as his partner in the ministry, Germanus) and various monks across the African desert, including Egypt. Together they entered into many spiritual discussions with desert fathers such as Abbot Daniel and Abbot Isaac, on enriching topics such as: “the Lust of the Flesh and of the Spirit” and “Prayer”. Initially written in Latin, this Christian antiquity was translated into English in 1997, thus the conference provides the reader with a great insight into the principles of spiritual and ascetic living, as experienced by the desert fathers.
